A real estate career can begin with a leasing agent license. In Illinois, you must obtain a license in order to work as a residential leasing agent, which is an employee of a real estate broker and engages in licensing activities limited to leasing residential real estate.

1. Successfully complete the 15 hour residential leasing agent licensing course.
2. Pass the Illinois licensing exam
3. Find a sponsoring broker
4. Apply to the state for your license
5. Renew your license with the required fees and/or coursework for your first renewal deadline
